Elliott is *finally* getting gtswimclub.com and mySwimClub (an internal site for members) up and running this semester... hooray!

With that said, we will no longer be using this site. Hopefully it has been helpful to ya'll; it has certainly been useful for the officer core while we awaited the AWESOME new site. Come to as many as you can manage... we're totally
laid-back! Two a week is probably average.

“HOW HARD IS PRACTICE”:
Depending on the level at which you wish to practice, practices extend from 1000
yards to 5000 yards. Practice is written on the white board. If you need help finding
people your speed/experience to train with, ask Trey (president) or Mannfred (secretary) for help.

“ARE THERE MEETS? ARE THEY MANDATORY?”:
Meets are optional, but are definitely encouraged because they are so much fun and probably the
best way to get to know everyone on the team. There are generally 2-4 per semester.
Popular past meets include:
Georgia College and State Invite: Millidgeville—late September
Elon University Fall Champs: Elon, NC—late October/early November
UGA Fall Quad Meet: Athens, GA—October/November
GT-UT Fall East Coast Champs (FECCs): Knoxville, TN—first weekend in December
Mardi Gras Invite: New Orleans, LA—February
GT Spring Break Training Trip—Fort Lauderdale, FL—spring break
East Coast Swim Club Championships (ECCs): Atlanta, GA—first weekend in April
UWF Invite: Pensacola Beach, FL—when it’s warm enough
Collegiate Club Swimming National Championships: Columbus, OH/Houston, TX—late April

“HOW DO I JOIN”:
Just stop by practice and try us out for a week or two and see if you like it (you will).
Dues can be paid either cash or check (made out to Georgia Tech Swim Club) and are
$45 for a semester or $80 for two semesters. This covers hotel stays at meets, gas for
transportation, and your GT swim cap. You will also receive a free GT Swim Club hoodie
once you become a full member*.

OTHER
See our official website at: http://cyberbuzz.gatech.edu/swimclub
See meet results at: http://cyberbuzz.gatech.edu/swimclub/results.php
See team pictures at: http://swimclub.two-fish.com

*full membership status: the hoodie is conditional upon participation in at least one meet and/or consistent attendance at practice (once a week minimum).

If you want to go in and swim at a different time, I would recommend between 8-10 am, since there's never anyone there. Construction on the competition pool will not be finished until after the semester is over. And yes, elections will in fact be taking place sometime during the next month.
Hope everyone has had a safe break! Has anyone been joining Mannfred for those 6:30 AM swims? Just a few announcements:

1. A new year, a new start. Encourage your friends to join!
2. Elliott will soon be sending out an e-mail about team t-shirts. Make sure you order one! I know there's been a lot of t-shirt offers over the past semester, but these will be our official team shirts.
3. Unfortunately, we only had 9 people sign up for the Miami of Ohio meet January 20-22. It's not enough for us to be able to afford to go up there, so we won't be able to attend that meet. They are hosting a number of other meets later in the season, so we'll see if we can get enough team interest that we can get up there at least once this semester.
4. As we start a new semester, let's have some team resolutions. I suggest the first be to get in the water on time at practice! Also, let's make sure we're holding to practice set-up: Left side of the pool is the least serious and right side of the pool is the most serious swimmers. Please hold to this, especially as new swimmers come in who have not yet found their comfort zone or a good training partner. Encourage your lane to swim sets with you!

We have been officially invited to Oxford, Ohio for a spring meet January 21st. Miami of Ohio has a fabulous pool (they'll be hosting swim club nationals later in the year), yes they'll have touchpads, and GCSU and UF have already committed. On the other hand, it is a 10+ hour drive and would likely cost each person a bit more. We would leave Friday, sleep in a hotel on the way up that night, arrive in Oxford on Saturday, swim the meet, hang out there Saturday night, and then drive back on Sunday. Events and all meet info is attached.

The questions is... would you be interested in going to this meet?!? It would be a ton of fun, but if we're driving all that way, we'd like to be able to take a big team! Post in the comments and let us know what you think!

The last official practice of the fall semester is this Thursday, Dec 8. We still have the pool reserved during normal swim club hours during finals week, so feel free to swim and relieve some stress; there just won't be a written practice for those days.

Next semester, we are planning on a meet at Miami of Ohio in January, the Mardi Gras Invite on March 11, the East Coast Championships here in ATL March 31-April 2, and a meet at UWF (Pensacola) in late March/early April. Possible other meets include UGA and UNC-Charlotte. The only finalized date is that of ECCs, so go ahead and mark it on your calendars! Tulane's pool did sustain some damage, but they hope to be done with all repairs by March 11th.

CONGRATS to all of you who competed at this weekend's big GT-UT meet. There were 44 new top times, wow! We also had two new records by our amazing Secretary, Alex Kennedy, in the 400 IM and 1650 free. The relay team of Stephen Clawson, Brett Ryan, Cameron Lippert, and Mannfred Slotnick handed UT a rare loss in the 200 FR. The medley relay team of Zack Schreer, Brent Rivard, Cameron Lippert, and Mannfred Slotnick finished just .07 off the Swim Club record. Individual event winners were David Paul Millard, Brent Rivard, Zack Schreer, Mannfred Slotnick, Melissa Scholz, Alison Skala, Taylor Kopacka, Halley Espy, and Alex Kennedy. Team scores and individual scorers are attached in the comments.

If you are going to the meet this weekend, you should have received an e-mail yesterday with all information: rides, rooming assignments, individual entries, and the relays. If you did not, or if you have any questions, feel free to e-mail Melissa (gtg905g).

Also, just FYI: Unlike ECCs (our big spring meet) which is our biggest meet of the year against 10 or 11 teams and in prelim-final format, this meet is a timed finals, very competitive dual or tri meet. Scoring is as follows: Individual Events: 10,7,5,3,1 Relay events: 20,15,10. Multiple relays can score. Also, I don't believe there are awards for this meet. Let's beat UT (boys, your record against them is 1-2).

Don't forget to bring money for meals and your $20 meet entry fee.
